Bernice L. Jahnke, 105, of Tripoli, died Saturday, June 8, 2013, at the Tripoli Nursing Home.
Funeral Services will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 12, 2013, at Faith United Church of Christ in Tripoli with Rev. Marilyn J. Sargent officiating. Friends may call from 10:00 a.m. until services time at the church on Wednesday. Interment will follow at Faith United Church of Christ Cemetery.
Bernice Laclaire, daughter of W.W. and Ethel Bowen Simpson, was born October 3, 1907, at Janesville, Iowa. On November 19, 1948, she was united in marriage with Herbert W. Jahnke at Rockford, Illinois. Bernice worked for many years at O’Brien’s Sundries, a drug store in Tripoli. She was also very active in Faith United Church of Christ in Tripoli where she sang in the choir and taught Sunday school.
She is survived by a daughter, Marlys (L. Ray) Bailey of Roseburg, Oregon; five grandchildren; several great, great great, great great great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert on February 25, 2000; a daughter, Vanada Jahnke on August 6, 2006; a son, Gene Sells on November 2, 2011; three sisters; and two brothers.
